Welcome to Notes From the Road—an inside look at desert happenings, things we’re currently into, and anything/everything in between brought to you by one of our owners and founders, Janelle. We don’t gatekeep here in the high desert, so if we love it, you need to know about it.
Our old friend from Philly—and the reason Robert and I met—recently came to visit us in the desert. Adam Cramer had a vintage motorcycle shop in Fishtown called Liberty Vintage, which serviced mainly vintage British and Japanese motorcycles. I had a 1971 Honda CB350, and Robert worked and lived in the shop. Adam now races vintage sidecar motorcycles, and we went up to Willow Springs Racetrack in Lancaster to watch the AHRMA practice runs. Adam is the driver, and the passenger, who is called a monkey, does all the hard work and puts themselves in the most danger, hanging inches off the ground while doing 90+ miles per hour. Some of the monkeys we met were retired women in their 60s. So inspiring!! Do I want to be a sidecar monkey?!?
Spring is in swing in the desert. This is the time of year when locals are excited to emerge from hibernation and out-of-towners come to enjoy the great weather and longer days. Desert X is going on through May 11 in the low desert. In the high desert, there are events nearly every weekend at various small businesses. A great way to stay up to date is to subscribe to the Pioneertown Gazette weekly events newsletter. At All Roads, we’re starting a monthly bike night and planning a summer music series in our backyard. Stay tuned.
Our seasonal textile collection is launching about one month late this year—c’est la vie. We are SO excited about the colors and patterns in this collection. We have been closely watching daily changes on the dreaded T-word—TARIFFS. We are unsure how the tariffs will impact us, as we don’t get our customs bill until weeks after receiving our shipments. However, at the moment, we’re not raising our prices to cover the cost of the tariffs. We’re hoping they go back down, so we will cover the increased fees to keep our products as accessible as possible. We’ll keep you updated as time goes on.
Earlier in April, we took a team inspiration day trip to LA. We ate ALL the good foods, visited some of our retailers like Heath Ceramics and General Store, and stopped by aspirational and conceptual design shops. Check out our recap here for all the stops on our road trip. We don’t get to the big city as much as we should, so it really was a breath of fresh air to see some different things.
